'Sock it to' suicide.
SMILEY SOCKS - ‘SOCK IT TO’ SUICIDE
We are SO glad to finally be able to share our latest campaign with you guys, one that is close to all our hearts and has a message that we are super passionate about.
Did you know that suicide is the biggest killer of young Australians? The latest statistics show 54 young people aged between 15 and 24 took their own lives in 2016 - in Western Australia alone. What's even more confronting is that for every suicide, another 20 people attempt to take their own lives.
Here at Transit, we work with young Australians every single day. They are our staff, our customers and most importantly, they are our friends and family. That's why we when we heard these stats we wanted to do anything we could to help... Enter Youth Focus.
Youth Focus is on the frontline, providing services and education programs for young people to help to reduce symptoms associated with suicide, depression, anxiety and self-harm. Last financial year, Youth Focus supported a record number of young people in WA, providing free counselling and assessment services to 3,654 young people and school and community education to another 6,000 people.
We want to help. Together with Youth Focus we want to 'sock it to’ suicide so have launched a range of fun, colourful socks to raise funds for Youth Focus. For every pair of $7.95 Smiley Socks sold online and in stores at Transit Clothing, we will donate $1 straight to their counselling, mental health support and suicide prevention services.
“Smiley Socks are as much about raising awareness about youth mental health as they are about raising money for Youth Focus in a fun way. This is about imploring young people to let a trusted friend or family member know if they are doing it tough. There is help out there.”
One in four young Australians live with a mental health condition and 75% of mental illnesses first appear in people under the age of 25. One in four is such a big number of young Australians, so why is mental health not talked about more? A lot of Australians don't understand the battles some young people need to fight just to leave the house, visit family or even go to work. We want to help remove the stigma and what better way than Smiley Socks? Fun, bold and quirky, with an important message behind them.
Smiley Socks are available in eight different designs and are available at all Transit Clothing stores now.
